About Music Kits

A music kit replaces the default Counter-Strike soundtrack with a custom artist score across the game's key audio cues: the main menu loop, round start, bomb planted, the ten-second warning, win and loss stingers, the death camera, and the MVP anthem.

It is one of the few cosmetic categories in CS2 with no wear value, no exterior, and no pattern index — every copy of a given kit sounds identical. Only one kit can be equipped at a time through the loadout.

The cheapest is Tim Huling, Neo Noir at $0.35; the dearest, Killer Mike, MICHAEL at $11.98.

What the kit actually changes (and what it doesn't)

A music kit swaps the score on a fixed set of triggers: menu music, the round-start cue, bomb-planted tension track, the ten-second-remaining alert, round win/loss stingers, the death-cam track, and the MVP anthem. It does not touch weapon sounds, voice lines, footsteps, or radio calls. Because there is no float or exterior, kits don't degrade in condition or vary by Factory New / Battle-Scarred. The only audible difference between two copies is none — value comes entirely from the artist, the edition (vanilla vs StatTrak), and supply. The MVP anthem is the only part heard by everyone in the match; the rest is private to the owner.

StatTrak music kits and the MVP counter

StatTrak kits track MVP stars, not kills. The counter increments each time you earn round MVP while the kit is equipped, and it persists with the item if traded or sold. This makes StatTrak music kits the cleanest in-game record of MVP performance, and high-count examples occasionally carry a small premium. A vanilla kit cannot be upgraded to StatTrak — the two are separate items that must be obtained independently. There is no way to reset or transfer a StatTrak count.

How kits are obtained

There are two main supply paths. Some kits are sold directly by Valve in the in-game store as fixed-price purchases; these are typically not tradable or marketable. Others are distributed through music kit boxes (for example the Radicals, 2018, and Masterminds music kit boxes), which unpack a random kit from a set and yield marketable copies. Marketable kits then circulate on the Steam Community Market, where discontinued box kits and StatTrak variants tend to sit above store-locked equivalents. Artists historically received a share of direct kit sales, which is part of why some kits were store-only.

Artists and price tiers

The roster spans game composers and outside musicians: Daniel Sadowski, Mateo Messina, Sasha, Feed Me, Noisia, AWOLNATION, Beartooth, Scarlxrd, Damjan Mravunac's Talos Principle score, and Austin Wintory among others, plus Valve's own house tracks. Pricing is generally one of the most affordable cosmetic categories — many vanilla kits trade in the low single digits. StatTrak editions cost more, and the spread within an artist's catalog is driven by box availability and how long a kit has been out of circulation rather than by any condition or rarity tier within the kit itself.

Frequently asked questions

Can other players hear my music kit?

Only the MVP anthem is broadcast to the whole server, and only when you earn round MVP. The menu, round-start, bomb, ten-second, win/loss, and death-cam tracks are audible only to you.

What does StatTrak count on a music kit?

It counts MVP stars earned while the kit is equipped, not kills. The count stays with the item permanently and cannot be reset or moved to another kit.

Can I upgrade a regular music kit to StatTrak?

No. Standard and StatTrak editions are separate items. There is no in-game upgrade path, so you have to acquire the StatTrak version on its own.

Do music kits have float or wear conditions?

No. Music kits have no exterior, no float value, and no pattern. Every copy of the same kit is identical, so there is no Factory New or Battle-Scarred distinction.

Why can't I sell some of my music kits?

Kits bought directly from the in-game store are usually not tradable or marketable. Only kits obtained from music kit boxes are marketable on the Steam Community Market.

Can I equip more than one music kit at a time?

No. You select a single kit in your loadout, and it governs all the music cues until you switch to a different one.
